Pearls and Wounds

Pearls and Wounds

We started our discussion from the idea of loosing our innocence. A way to heal our wounds. Or maybe to make them more evident, to disclose our wounds to the eyes of those around us. There is no beauty without suffering. The pearls are our tears. The camera our point of view. And the mirror never reflects the whole truth.

As Ashely’s dress fades away, she gets covered by medical bandages. At the same time, the bandages leave space to Ashely’s skin. The white bandages are not covering the bleeding of our souls, but they are there to signal — once and for all — that appearance is deceiving our understanding of every day realities. Nudity is our vulnerability. Makeup and hairstyle, the masks we wear.

Pearls and Wounds is an original work, however I’d like to credit my inspiration for photography to some of the most amazing contemporary artists: Akif Hakan Celebi (Hong Kong), Fabrice Mabillot (Paris) and Marc Lagrange (Antwerp). Celebi, Mabillot and Lagrange’s creativity inspired us in creating this series of images, and through their works I am learning every day more about photography.
